Our Founder
Bruce Martens has a deep and long-established reputation for providing equitable opportunities for all people who desire to grow in competence and confidence on the bike.
Prior to founding National Center for Youth Development (NCYD), Bruce was the founder of two non-profit youth cycling programs that together served more than 5,000 members a year. He also was a critical member of a business team that launched 17 organizations around the country that today serve more than 20,000 youth through year-round cycling activities.
Now serving NCYD in an advisory role, Bruce continues to be a fixture in the NCYD community as a mentor and a coach. Bruce currently serves as the Chief Business Development Officer for the Bike Instructor Certification Program (BICP), a national program leading bike instruction and accreditation for individuals, organizations, and institutions.
Bruce and his wife, Lisa, live in Minneapolis with their son, Torsten. They enjoy going on adventures in the great outdoors, spending time with friends and family, and of course riding bikes!
