About Us
Your support is critical to our mission of empowering youth in their quest for community, identity, and purpose.
National Center for Youth Development is a Minneapolis-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that empowers youth to build a community—where they can find identity and purpose—through age-based programming on and off the bike.
Riding bikes, changing lives.
First and foremost, National Center for Youth Development (NCYD) is an amazing community of people who love riding bikes. And who believe the bicycle is a powerful vehicle for personal and collective growth and development.
We provide age-based programming for youth ages 5 to 18 that’s centered around mountain biking and includes group rides, bike skills development, strength training, social activities, and community service.
Our programming is guided by our Youth Board of Directors with the support of an Adult Board of Directors. Our youth riders are supported by a dedicated team of coaches—all of whom are trained not only in coaching youth on bikes but also in creating an inclusive and supportive environment for youth development.
We hope you’ll join our adventure.
What makes NCYD unique?
Rooted in community
Our shared passion for cycling is what brought us together. It also inspires us to give back to the Twin Cities community. Whether we’re lacing up our boots for trail work or getting bikes to kids in need, we’re all in to make it better.
Led by Youth
Equitable opportunity benefits all who participate. With this vision, we offer leadership experience for our youth and their families. This is part of what makes NCYD unique. Case in point: Our organization is led by a youth board of directors that is supported by a passionate, actively engaged adult board. These youth leaders are in charge of setting our organizational agenda; the adults are there to set guardrails and help make it happen.
More than bikes.
Our approach hinges on using cycling-specific activities as a springboard for helping our riders find community, identity, and purpose on and off the bike. Since day one, we’ve followed evidence-based practice methods that focus on the holistic development of each individual, not just their athletic prowess. We’re helping our youth build skills—and a community—that last a lifetime.
